Car trunk [Jul. 6th, 2008|02:27 am]

This was in my sister's car trunk... I can just see the caption: "In case of abduction, pull this and then jump RUN LIKE HELL!"

I mean, the guy is like 1 and a half car lengths away... if the guy was right outside of the trunk with regular jumping-out range it just wouldn't be funny. :)

Peter can't be bothered to turn up for festivals abroad but has kindly found the time to invite the Sun into his home. *Headdesk*

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/article1383981.ece

There are pictures, which I suppose makes it okay (but the Sun website won't let me copy them) including one of him and a kitten in a baseball cap, which is actually quite adorable. Also one of him on a brown horse, to which I could make a really unfunny joke about being 'back on the horse', but I won't.
Oh, and sorry for sounding bitter. It's just that this all feels very 2004/2005.

Win Peter's postcard [Jul. 4th, 2008|01:23 pm]

thelibs_daily

[dachelle]
Thanks to Peter Davison for commenting on the original post about this with more information:

Hi, it's Peter Davison from the We Love Marlborough organising committee.

What our lovely local paper (and subsequently the nationals) neglected to say was that you guys – the fans – can win Pete's postcard in a raffle. You can get a ticket by posting a cheque to Morgan Boyce Gallery, Hughenden Yard, Marlborough, SN8 1LT or by phone on (+44) 1672 516400. Tickets are £5 UK and all proceeds go to Marlborough and UK charities. The winner will be drawn on July 31.

For those of you in the UK, the postcards goes on display tomorrow (Saturday) at the gallery. They'll be up for a week. Postcards by Drew and Adam can be bought for £5, if they haven't been snapped up already! They are being displayed anonymously, so you'll have to guess which of the 800 on display postcards are theirs. Hint: Pete's is not the only postcard in blood, and Adam signed his on the front!

Postcards have also been produced by Alize Meurisse, who produced the cover artwork for Babyshambles’ Shotter’s Nation, and Robyn Whitehead, the band’s photographer and film-maker.

Oh, for the record, we (the organisers) weren't shocked, stunned or taken aback by Pete's postcard. I sat on Pete's doorstep while he painted it indoors, and chatted to Adam and Alize, so I was well aware what we were getting. To be honest, Drew's haircut and the pink scooter were far more of a shock ;-)

For the REAL story, and to have a look at Pete's postcard, log on to www.welovemarlborough.co.uk

Also, he says the raffle is open to people outside the U.K. - you can call the gallery with a credit card.

Body: Been here three and a half hours now, the thought of letting down another festival makes me sick!

So lucky to have these opportunities, how many people have to get up and graft 8hrs a day all their lives!!!!!!

All we have to do is go and play music...do what we love, it's that simple.

I don't get it!!

Sorry.

Moving towards more green behavior and habits has been a major trend for me in the last few years. I'm currently living in a condo where we have no recycling set up (it's hard enough trying to keep up with trash disposal). I'm not sure if recycling is even set up for this area. Bummer, I know. Here are some ideas (successfully used in some cases, only ideas in other cases) for more environmentally friendly shipping, mailing, etc. habits.

* Reuse boxes from previous mail arrivals or purchased products
* 12 can soda packs stuffed with crinkled up paper inside of another box was a safe way of getting a narrow glass platter in the mail.
* Shred junk mail and fliers to use in place of packing peanuts
* Unsalted, unbuttered popcorn makes for good packing material (you could feed ducks afterwards or something)
* During a friend's recent move (it was a short distance where movers weren't hired), we wrapped all of her glasses, bowls, and plates in a few layers of old plastic bags she had laying around. She's going to recycle them once they're all unpacked.
* You could also use dish towels/kitchen rags as cushioning for dishes
* On moving again - hit up the grocery store and other retail locations. Sometimes they have intact boxes you can take home to pack (saving money AND landfill space)
* I worked retail where we received boxes filled with packing peanuts all the time. We filled garbage bags FULL of them and dropped them off at a Pak Mail around the corner (or some other mailing place) and they reused them instead of us throwing them away.

Any other creative ways to mail, pack, and move?
